The NRSB provides recognizable conformance to quality and confidence in the radon industry.

New & Noteworthy

The NRSB recognizes all ANSI/AARST radon standards in addition to the previously recognized radon standards established by the EPA and ASTM. An NRSB certificate holder must follow the standards recognized by the state in which they are conducting business and their QA plan must list the standards that are being followed.

NRSB RADON PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

NRSB RADON PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Radon Measurement Technician (RMT) Radon Measurement Specialist (RMS) Radon Mitigation (Reduction) Specialist (RRS)

Initial RMT Certification:

  • Take and pass an NRSB-approved 8-hour Initial Measurement Course
  • Take the NRSB RMT Exam
    • Exam is online and available 24 x 7
    • Consists of 75 multiple choice questions
    • Examinee has 1.5 hours to complete it
    • Passing grade is 70%
    • Costs $120
  • Complete the Initial Measurement Technician Application
  • Pay certification fee – $125 for 1 year; $200 for 2 years
  • Submit completed application with a copy of the NRSB Exam score report and the certificate of Completion from the initial course and any related device documentation, if required.

Initial RMS Certification:

  • Take and pass an NRSB-approved 16-hour Initial Measurement Course
  • Take the NRSB RMS Exam
    • Exam is online and available 24 x 7
    • Consists of 100 multiple choice questions
    • Examinee has 2 hours to complete it
    • Passing grade is 70%
    • Costs $120
  • Complete the Initial Measurement Specialist Application
  • For CRM and/or Electret Ion1 devices, submit calibration reports for every device used
  • For CRM and/or Electret Ion devices, professional must complete a proficiency test
  • For CRM and/or Electret Ion devices, submit a copy of reports given to customers
  • Pay certification fee – $125 for 1 year; $200 for 2 years
  • Submit completed application with a copy of the NRSB Exam score report and the certificate of Completion from the initial course

Initial RRS Certification:

  • Take and pass an NRSB-approved 16-hour Initial Measurement Course AND 24-hour Mitigation Course, or a combined 40-hour Course
  • Take the NRSB RRS Exam
    • Exam is online and available 24 x 7
    • Consists of 125 multiple choice questions
    • Examinee has 2.5 hours to complete it
    • Passing grade is 70%
    • Costs $120
  • Complete the Initial Mitigation Specialist Application
  • Pay certification fee – $125 for 1 year; $200 for 2 years
  • Submit a copy of the guarantees and/or warranties provided to your customers
  • Submit completed application with a copy of the NRSB Exam score report and the certificates of Completion from the initial course(s)

RMT Certification Renewal:

  • Take and pass an NRSB-approved Continuing Education Course(s)
    • Must complete 4 CE credits per renewal year
  • Complete the Renewal Measurement Specialist/Technician Application
  • Pay certification fee – $125 for 1 year; $200 for 2 years

RMS Certification Renewal:

  • Take and pass an NRSB-approved Continuing Education Course(s)
    • Must complete 8 CE credits per renewal year
  • For CRM and/or Electret Ion devices, submit current calibration reports for every device used
  • For Electret Ion devices, must submit either a proficiency test for each type of Electret Ion or the results of a blind spiking test
  • Submit a copy of report(s) given to customers for CRM/Electret Ion devices
  • Complete the Renewal Measurement Specialist/Technician Application
  • Pay certification fee – $125 for 1 year; $200 for 2 years

1 – Companies using Electret Ion Devices must also become an Accredited Radon Laboratory, if the RMS is reading the device and generating the customer reports

RRS Certification Renewal:

  • Take and pass an NRSB-approved Continuing Education Course(s)
    • Must complete 8 CE credits per renewal year
  • Complete the Renewal Mitigation Specialist Application
  • Submit a copy of the guarantees and/or warranties provided to your customers
  • Pay certification fee – $125 for 1 year; $200 for 2 years
